SEO for Nonprofits

A nonprofit site has to work for somebody in crisis at 11pm and a program officer doing due diligence at 11am. Those are not the same visitor.

Most nonprofit websites are built for donors and then quietly fail the people the organisation exists to serve, or built for clients and give a funder nothing to evaluate.

We work with four organisations across volunteer coordination, disaster response, community development, and youth sports. The recurring finding is the same: the program pages are what people search for, and they are almost always the least maintained part of the site.

What makes search different here

Program pages are the front door

People do not search for your organisation. They search for the thing they need: volunteer coordination, disaster relief, a youth league. Each program needs its own page that answers that search.

Grant readiness is a search problem too

Funders look you up. What they find, and whether outcomes and leadership are easy to verify, is part of due diligence whether or not anybody calls it marketing.

Budget is real, so priority matters more

There is rarely money for everything. The honest answer is usually two or three pages that matter and leaving the rest alone, not a retainer that spreads thin.

Google Ad Grants change the maths

Eligible nonprofits can access in-kind search advertising, which changes what is worth building and what is worth bidding on. Worth checking before assuming organic has to carry everything.

How we would approach it

  1. 01Separate the two audiences and decide what each page is for before touching copy.
  2. 02One page per program, written to the search somebody actually types.
  3. 03Make outcomes and leadership easy to find and easy to verify.
  4. 04Check Google Ad Grant eligibility before assuming organic is the only option.
  5. 05Pick the two or three things that matter. Nonprofit budgets do not reward spreading thin.

Pricing is the same as everything else here and it is on the page. No industry surcharge.
